What a digital camera can be. Optical quality
A new level of clarity

The high resolution of the RDC-5000 lends unprecedented power and control to your creative efforts. But we didn't design this camera just for aspiring professionals. The clean, simple lines, and intuitive operation make it a digital camera that redefines the entire idea of what a digital camera can be. The lens that captures photographic light ultimately determines the quality of your shots. Ricoh's advanced optical lens assembly ensures that your imagination can go exactly where it wants. Ricoh's 2.3-million-pixel CCD camera places entirely new creative potential within your grasp. Coupled with Ricoh's high-quality lens assembly, the camera reliably achieves an extremely fine degree of

Seamless Macro Mode
The RDC-5000 comes equipped with an autofocus that allows you to change quickly and smoothly from a wide-angle close-up from as little as 4 cm away all the way out to shots at infinity. Focal adjustment is a simple, automatic process with the RDC-5000: simply depress the shutter, and the lens will adjust accordingly, allowing you to move smoothly from close-up shots to landscapes and back with ease.

Flash Modes
The RDC-5000's sensitive CCD makes even low light shots possible without using the built-in flash -- but when you do use the flash, you benefit from advanced Ricoh flash technology to help you take better, clearer shots time after time. You can choose from the Auto Flash, Slow Synchro, Redeye Reduction, and Flash Off modes.
Slow Synchro and Redeye Reduction mode

Text Mode
The Text Mode of the RDC-5000 is designed to take pictures of text that maintain high standards of legibility. It raises the contrast and makes full use of the camera's high resolution so that pictures of text stand out -- perfect for capturing a digital copy of an important document.

2.3x Continuous Optical Zoom Lens
The RDC-5000 boasts 2.3x optical zoom performance, producing focal distances of 8-18 mm -- equivalent to a 38-86mm zoom lens on a 35mm camera. This allows you to balance the size of different kinds of subjects without large areas of unwanted background -- and without blowing up the image digitally and losing resolution. Interval Shooting

The RDC-4300 offers three different JPEG compression ratios for each of the camera's two resolution modes, as well as one non-compressed option. Whether you choose the professional-quality (1280 x 960 pixel) mode or the VGA (640 x 480 pixel) mode, you're free to capture exactly the level of quality you need. What's more, you can apply Ricoh's new compression algorithm to downsample a 1280 x 980-pixel image to VGA format at 640 x 480 pixels while preserving precise image quality. The pictures that you take look their best--even when compressed.

2.5x Digital Zoom

Push your photography further with the RDC-5000's 2.5x digital zoom feature. The camera digitally enlarges the image in the center 1/4 of the normal 1792 x 1200-pixel image to full screen size. This enlarged image is captured in the 896 x 600-pixel mode. And the expanded flexibility of the digital zoom means that, when used along with the camera's 2.3x optical zoom, you can get better than 5x zoom performance!

Auto White Balance

Auto White Balance automatically corrects for discoloration that can occur when your subject is lit by various sources. Choose from Manual, Daylight, Overcast, Fluorescent Light, and Tungsten settings.

Monochrome Photography

When you're looking for a quick special effect shot, the RDC-5000 offers two monochrome-filtered programs: Black and White, and "antiqued" Sepia tone. Experiment artistically with your photographs!

Autofocus; Manual Focus
Ricoh's intelligent autofocus lets you concentrate on framing the right shot; the camera delivers clearly focused shots time after time. However, for photographers these prefer a more hands-on approach, the RDC-5000 lets you take command with completely manually focusing.

Exposure Compensation
The RDC-5000 offers fully automatic back-lit compensation so that you can capture well-lit subjects in any setting. You also have the option of setting a manual compensation, in 0.5 EV steps, for an EV range of +2.0 to -2.0. Manual override enables the exposure to be adjusted; deactivation of the flash save battery power and allows for special photo lighting effects.

Optional Remote

This handy remote control unit gives you pinpoint control over self-portraits and other hands-free photo opportunities.

Continuous Photography

Shooting at 1-second intervals with the RDC-5000 is made possible by a 2MB SDRAM buffer memory that can accumulate data continuously as you shoot away -- up to 10 pictures in the 1792x1200-pixel format, and 28 pictures in 896x600-pixel resolution mode. (Please note that the number of pictures in a continuous shoot will vary according to the camera mode used and the amount of internal memory available).

JPEG Compression Options
The RDC-5000 offers three different JPEG compression ratios, so you're free to capture exactly the level of quality you need. Normal is the basic JPEG compression ratio; Fine recording puts the emphasis on image quality; and Economy mode lets you maximize the number of shots you can store to on-board memory.

Resolution Picture Mode
Fine Normal Economy

Choose Your Image Capture
Ricoh makes it easy to capture the image sizes you use the most. The professional-quality mode takes 1792 x 1200-pixel images, and the 896 x 600-pixel mode gives you excellent flexibility for multimedia and other lower-resolution applications.
1792 X 1200 pixel (RDC-5000)
1280 X 1024 pixel (SXGA)
1024 X 768 pixel (XGA)
896 X 600 pixel (RDC-5000)
640 X 480 pixel(VGA)

8MB On-board RAM/SmartMedia Cards
The RDC-5000's 8MB of internal RAM speeds up CCD image processing so that you spend less time waiting and more time shooting. And new, higher-capacity 32MB SmartMedia Cards give you the flexibility to store the largest images with ease -- or a whole library of quick snapshots! Date Imprinting

The date imprinting feature allows you to set the camera to automatically put a date on your photographs. For insurance and legal applications, among others, this can serve a very important function.

Real-time Monitoring
With previous digital cameras, moving the camera while you took shot would cause the LCD monitor image to blur. With the RDC-5000, you have a crisp, clear monitor image, even when the camera is in motion.

Auto Playback
This playback mode lets you use the LCD camera as a slide show screen,by automatically playing back all of the camera's stored images at 1, 5, 10, or 30-second intervals.

Zoom Playback

This mode allows you to closely examine your fine details in your photographs. A selected photo will zoom to an up-close view of its central portion. Button commands then let you move this magnified view around the image until the detail you want to see is framed -- all the way to the corners of the image. This magnified view allows you to precisely confirm the focus of an image before you use it elsewhere.

Multi-picture Playback

The screen of the LCD monitor can be divided into six images that display simultaneously. By manipulating the zoom button, you can quickly move through your stored images to select just the ones you want to keep.

Universal Serial Bus (USB)* Connections
The USB cable connection provides a high-speed data link between the RDC-5000 and a PC running Windows98. Data transfer times are significantly improved over conventional serial or IrDA connections. This feature allows you to use the RDC-5000 as a removable drive for the transfer of large volumes of data. You can even turn the camera into a SmartMedia card drive.
* Limited to PCs with Windows98 pre-installed.The USB driver for Macintosh ,please downroad from the Ricoh Website.

Video Output
The camera's video out connections let you link up to an ordinary TV monitor and display your captured images for all to see.

Video Output Format Flexibility
For video output, the RDC-5000 supports both the PAL and NTSC video signal standards. PAL is used in many European and Asian countries; NTSC is the standard in Japan, Korea, Taiwan and the US. This means that, using the supplied video cables, you can display images on TV/video screens while visiting or on business trips just about wherever you go.

Design rule for Camera File system (DCF)
The Design rules for Camera File system is a file format proposed by the Japan Electronics Promotion Council. Digital cameras like the RDC-5000 that complies with the format standards can easily exchange document files between them.

Direct Print of File(DPOF)
DPOF is a special feature that allows you to assign information to your images for use by digital printing services, desktop printers that accept memory cards, or devices that allow direct printing from the camera. By assigning DPOF information to an image, you may designate the quantity of images you wish to have printed or have an index of selected images printed directly from the memory card or image file.
